In 1987, two women came together and used their resources to address an issue that they both were familiar with in their personal lives. During Presidency every first lady takes on an issue in which she feels strongly about, Rosalynn Carter took on mental illness. Gabriele Sexton and Pat Reeser saw this opportunity to bring Mrs. Carter and her influence on board to catapult Project Interconnections into the force we know it today. Big names from around Atlanta like Georgia Power and Emory University came together in support, not knowing they would be funding on of the first housing first approaches to the fight against homelessness.
